Maintenance

Making sure that the Westpac Rescue Helicopter stays airborne and available for its 30 minute stand-by are the crew from Rotorlift Engineering.

A team of highly qualified aero-mechanical and avionic engineers carry out the maintenance tasks that keep the Westpac Rescue Helicopter flying.

Overseen by the strict standards of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, regular programmed maintenance at 50 hour intervals begin with basic 20 minute requirements to more complex tasks carried out over several days.

Chief Engineer, Mick Richmond, says, “We can plan most tasks so that the aircraft does not have to be off-line but, where a major task is required it is carried out in stages to ensure that aircraft can be airborne with a minimum of down-time. With major overhauls the back-up helicopter can be brought into operation.”

The Engineering Division also carries out modifications and improvements as required to provide a world-class service.
